Commerce and services of proximity located in the Gothic Quarter, la Barceloneta and el Raval neighbourhoods have received, in their own store and at the best time form them, a total amount of 12 hours of expert and personalised support —given by an expert— in order to improve their business. The suggested improvements have been worked from a diagnosis that has been previously discussed by the businesses and their advisors in order to design the main points to handle.

From October 2017 to March 2018, different types of commerce (textile stores, electrical retailers, jewelers, health services, arts and crafts, household articles shops, or printing and postal services) have taken part of the programme and, according to them, it has been a very positive experience.

The strengths of the programme, according to its participants, are the personalised advice, the adaptation to the business’ schedules, and the improvements suggested, which were easy to apply and helped the stores being more competitive.

The last goal of this project is to increase proximity commerce and services’ capacities, as well as to improve the quality of their services from a number of sides: a better strategy of the product and the customer, commercialisation and marketing improvement, interior design, customer’s loyalty, finances, purchasing and inventory management, economic management, and the use of new technologies.

Up to now, the programme has been implemented in 4 districts of the city (Nou Barris, Sant Andreu, Sants-Montjuïc and Ciutat Vella), and always under the promotion strategy for proximity commerce included in the Economic Development Plans.

After the great success of the programme and its good qualification, a second edition is planned to be carried out during 2018. This new edition will give 20 stores from the district of Ciutat Vella the opportunity to take part in it and it will be developed in 6 districts of the city.
