Bar Muy Buenas
In 1928, the couple formed by Josep Ribas and Josefa Manzana opened their dining establishment Bar Muy Buenas. Considered an Iconic Establishment, it closed in 2014 but has since been restored with respect and care by Grup Confiteria. Displayed on the upper floor, with a small balcony, is the sign by Salvador Ràfols, the first to use the premises, which was later stripped of its Catalan modernist features by one of its subsequent tenants, who dismantled the screen, the exterior doorframe, and the marble bar. These had to be returned.
It offers popular Catalan cuisine, well executed with quality ingredients. Anchovies from L'Escala, omelette in sauce, Figueres onion soup, cod “a la llauna” with Santa Pau beans, meatballs with cuttlefish, cannelloni, fricandó (fricassee-like stew), Catalan crème brûlée, Empordà recuit cheese... Along with a multitude of local wines, and cocktails with names like Mary Santpere or Josep Pla, made with local spirits –Aromas de Montserrat, ratafía, Anís del Mono, absinthe from Girona, white rice cream from the Ebro Delta– make Bar Muy Buenas a first-rate local experience.
They are open from Monday to Sunday, have a lunchtime menu, and their private room can accommodate groups and small celebrations.
