Covid-19. Special emphasis is being put on freelances and SMEs.

Reactivating the economy following the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic is the ambitious goal behind this new plan, financed under a municipal fund of 25 million euros announced in mid-April, which puts special emphasis on freelance workers and SMEs and is divided up into three big measures.

Three hundred euros’ aid for freelances

The new Freelance+ Barcelona aid programme will give 300 euros to the city’s freelance workers who have seen a 75% reduction in sales or have had to close their establishment or shop as a result of the Covid-19 crisis.

This is a supplement for people who have already received extraordinary benefits from the Spanish government, of 661 euros, which is equivalent to 70% of the minimum contribution base. Thanks to that municipal aid, this freelance collective will be receiving 961 euros, which means a large number of freelances will be receiving 100% of their minimum contribution base.

To benefit from this aid, applicants will have to verify they are registered Barcelona residents, that they are receiving the extraordinary state benefits approved and that they are up to date with their tax and social security contributions.

This aid has a total budget of 5 million euros.

Application submissions: from 20 May to 30 September.

Support for fund-seeking

Barcelona Activa’s Business Care Office will be managing a new service for accompanying freelances, micro-enterprises, SMEs and cooperatives for finding funding, grants and subsidies and public aid following the Covid-19 outbreak.

Launching: 4 May.

Property-related legal property

A free legal-guidance service will be offered in collaboration with the Barcelona Lawyers’ Association, for temporarily negotiating the terms and conditions of leases for commercial premises and offices.

The business localisation service has also been extended, to attend to businesses that have to change location for any reason.

Launching: 11 May.
