Conference: “Commerce and Territory: district promotion plans”. Interculturalism, associations, and promoting commerce will be the focus of debate at a conference that will present experiences developed in various districts.

On 20 March, the Department of Commerce is holding a conference entitled “Commerce and Territory: district promotion plans”, a meeting point for presenting and sharing cases and experiences developed from and with the area they relate to. Various initiatives relating to interculturalism, associations, and promoting neighbourhood commerce will be analysed. The event will take place in the Moragues Room at the Born Centre for Culture and Memory.

The initiative aims to bring together projects promoted from the neighbourhoods and districts linked to strengthening and promoting commercial activity in the city, experiences based on the decentralization of trade policies and in coordination with the strategies approved by the Barcelona City Council Department of Commerce.

Mateu Hernández, the CEO of Barcelona Global, will give a speech at the conference, following which the commerce promotion plans will be presented. There will be three presentations about projects promoted in different districts:

  • In the Sants and Sant Andreu districts, an intercultural initiative has been launched to provide tools skills acquisition tools those responsible for boosting trade associations, as well as providing information to traders from diverse backgrounds, mainly the Chinese community and in general to traders of Asian origin.
  • Les Corts, with the association “Les Corts Comerç 08028”, and Gràcia with “Coll Amunt” bear witness to the creation of two new commerce associations. The promotion of these associations is key to implementing strategies that can respond to the specific challenges of each moment.
  • The Eix Besòs neighbourhoods are behind the launch of the “Rec” citizen currency. An initiative that promotes the local economy and empowers citizens. In addition, the neighbourhood is revitalised and trade is promoted, a formula for nurturing the real economy, a sustainable economy.
