Agreement with SEAT to be the headquarters of Metropolis: Lab Barcelona
City Council and SEAT have signed an agreement for the car manufacturer to set up the headquarters of its international research centre, Metropolis: Lab Barcelona, in the city. The centre will specialise in smart and sustainable mobility and provide work for 50 engineers.
Metropolis: Lab Barcelona will actually specialise in traffic management and the monitoring of vehicles to find solutions leading to more environmentally sustainable and safer mobility.
During the signing of the deal, the Mayor, Ada Colau, and the CEO of SEAT, Luca de Meo, expressed their mutual wish to work “towards a zero emissions city with zero mortalities”.
Colau pointed out that the collaboration should allow for a strengthening of “international leadership by the city”, as it means an “important investment in innovation, the attraction of talent and the creation of jobs”.
The Deputy Mayor for Enterprise, Culture and Innovation, Jaume Collboni, highlighted the work carried out jointly with the company in the last few months to make the research centre a reality: “We’re helping to position Barcelona in the sphere of innovation, moving along the path to the reactivation and reconversion of the economic model”.
The Metropolis: Lab Barcelona will become operational in 2017 and its headquarters will be in the city.
