In 2017, “We're promoting what you do” subsidised ten projects with a €350,000 budget. The projects funded provided a solution for high social-impact needs, such as recycling, training and digital inclusion, reducing the digital gap and fighting against energy poverty.

Barcelona has been unanimously selected as the deputy chair of the Eurocities European network of cities' Knowledge Society Forum Eurocities. The election took place on 18 October in the city of Zaragoza, within the framework of the autumn meeting of this forum. Barcelona’s term of office begins this month and runs until October 2020.

Thursday 18 October saw the presentation of the FlossBcn web platform, a new tool that is meant to become a non-profit community for the field's organisations, professionals, researchers and companies. The event was held within the framework of the Thinking Biennale and in line with the City Council's commitment to investing in open-source free software.

The meeting began with an introduction and roadmap of the symposium under the guidance of Francesca Bria, the Commissioner for Digital Technology and Innovation and in charge of the EU DECODE programme, with the aim of coordinating a strategic vision on how digital technologies can benefit an alternative political, economic and social project to the prevailing surveillance capitalism and data extractivism, controlled by a handful of companies based mainly in the United States and China.

The World Data Viz Challenge 2018 Barcelona-Kobe is looking for the best ten projects using open data and analysing the city with visual displays and infographics.

The main goal of the Thinx – 5GBarcelona lab is to offer entrepreneurs, corporations and SMEs a place to test their prototypes in an environment with the same technology and infrastructures needed in real cases. The newly created test bed is the only one of its kind in the country and will help foster research and innovation, enriching the local business network and positioning Barcelona as one of the most important European research centres in this sphere.

A technology committee. LleialtTec, has been formed for Lleialtat Santsenca, which is fostering the digital empowerment of local residents, groups and associations. One of this new facility's main challenges  is to bring the principles of community action to the field of technology and use free, ethical tools for managing it and developing communications, content creation and data storage.
