Subsidies were awarded in January to the projects chosen from the digital social innovation category of last year’s ‘Impulsem el que fas’ grants. The winning projects offer solutions for a wide range of needs with a high social impact for the city of Barcelona and its inhabitants, including recycling, training and digital inclusion, bridging the digital divide, stressing the gender perspective and combatting energy poverty.

Barcelona has strengthened its position as a global competitive environment, and in terms of drawing in the highest number of foreign investment projects in the last five years, it has been ranked in eighth place for urban areas, according to the Barcelona Observatory 2016 report.

City Council and SEAT have signed an agreement for the car manufacturer to set up the headquarters of its international research centre, Metropolis: Lab Barcelona, in the city. The centre will specialise in smart and sustainable mobility and provide work for 50 engineers.
