How we’re working to ensure digital inclusion during the pandemic
The Emergency Plan to ensure digital inclusion in Barcelona is one of the urgent measures implemented by the City Council in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 crisis. A succession of total and partial lockdowns has been particularly hard on certain groups within the population who, for different reasons, have not had access to information and communication technologies.
The Plan has launched initiatives to improve living conditions for those people for whom digitalisation represents a barrier rather than an opportunity, with three objectives:
- Improving access to digital tools (devices, spaces, and connectivity).
- Ensuring that people are able to acquire the skills needed in order to use these tools.
- Ensuring access to e-Government.
In the report that we're now publishing you’ll find information on all of these initiatives initially implemented in the second half of 2020, together with details of what has been achieved to date.
Digital inclusion is essential for building a fairer, more inclusive, and more responsive city, in accordance with the guidelines of the 2030 Agenda.
