Digital Social Innovation Programme (DSI4BCN)
Description / Objectives
Barcelona has long been a major centre for innovation.
With the fourth industrial revolution under way and the new dynamics of technological democratisation and citizen participation, Barcelona also aims to be a major player in digital social innovation processes and to expand its already healthy ecosystem of production initiatives among equals, based on the so-called "commons", with benchmarks such as Goteo, guifi.net and Xnet.
The DSI4BCN network, based on the DSI4EU project, aims to provide support to digital social innovation initiatives that use free, open, decentralised and ethical technologies that respect the general public's digital privacy and draw up a map in order to tackle the challenges facing the general public and ensure the social impact of the solutions.
A good example of an emblematic pilot project in digital social innovation which has a territorial impact is the launch of Barcelona's Maker District, located in Poblenou's industrial area.
It redefines the innovation district and incorporates new technologies and new public players, empowering community-controlled initiatives, as well as initiatives among universities, research institutions, maker spaces, fab labs, social companies, the general public and social movements. It strengthens local, small-scale, circular and collaborative economies that have a social and local impact.
