Connectem Barcelona
A pilot project for digital inclusion in the city’s neighbourhoods.
Connectem Barcelona. A digital-needs support service that aims to ensure access to digital devices with high-quality internet connections and digital support for people at risk of digital exclusion. It aims to be a tool for combating the digital gap and addressing the emergency situation caused by the rapid digitalisation of basic activities such as education, job-hunting and administrative procedures as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
2023 also saw the launch of a project entitled “Connectem Barcelona, Servei d’acompanyament de necessitats digitals” [We’re connecting Barcelona, a digital-needs support service] in the Trinitat Vella neighbourhood, in the Sant Andreu district.
This is a service loaning 25 laptop computers at the Biblioteca Trinitat Vella-José Barbero and follows the creation of a similar service in the Besòs i el Maresme neighbourhood, in Sant Martí. The project is the result of collaboration between the Barcelona Libraries Consortium, the BIT Habitat Foundation and the Barcelona Mobile World Capital Foundation.
The loan service will be available to users of the Biblioteca Trinitat Vella-José Barbero, located at Carrer de Galícia, 16. It will be accessible to anyone with a Biblioteques de Barcelona library card. The laptops can be loaned out for a month, renewable up to three times. Anyone needing digital support will be able to use the ICT advisory service offered by the library on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 5 pm to 8 pm.
