Barcelona combats loneliness
The Barcelona Disseny Hub joins the campaign “Let’s reconnect, against loneliness”, set up by Barcelona City Council through the Department for Social Rights, Global Justice, Feminisms and LGTBI.
Throughout July a vinyl decoration will be installed on the display window of the Disseny Hub at street level, which will show a supportive message to combat unwanted loneliness.
The purpose of “Let’s reconnect, against loneliness” is to destigmatise and make citizens aware of loneliness, from the youngest to the eldest, because anyone can feel lonely.
The campaign is based on data from the Òmnibus 2022 survey that showed 70,000 people often or very often feel lonely in the city, particularly affecting young people, as 1 in 3 youngsters between 16 and 24 years old feel alone, a sensation that is heightened by the consequences of the social and healthcare crisis of Covid-19.
To transmit this message to citizens, Barcelona City Council has organised different actions throughout July, including the installation at Plaça Universitat with the “Test to recognise loneliness” and a documentary made by Marc González and David Cabrera, which will be published mid-July. A new website has also been created with information and resources to identify and combat loneliness.
