Barcelona joins the European Mobility Week

From 16 to 22 September, European Mobility Week is celebrated. With the slogan “Move Sustainably. Stay Healthy”, this year’s edition focuses on mental health, physical health, safety and sustainable mobility.

Barcelona is taking part in the week-long event with a series of activities for everyone, young and old. Barcelona City Council and various associations and entities have launched a program of proposals with the aim of improving air quality, recovering public space and promoting more sustainable, safe and healthy mobility habits, such as travel on foot, by bicycle, by public transport or by electric vehicle. Among the most outstanding activities are Park(ing) Day, on September 17, and Car-Free Day, on the 22nd.

A sustainable city

Coinciding with this celebration and Barcelona City Council’s commitment to making a sustainable city, Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona will launch a new bus line. This is the XPRESBus X1 line, starting on Monday 20 September.

This is an express line that will connect Francesc Macià and Les Glòries, passing through the center of Barcelona, in a route that will take a maximum of 13 minutes with four stops each way. This novelty is an improvement to facilitate mobility in the city, while allowing another way to access the Disseny Hub Barcelona. Continuing with the will to work for sustainability and the environment, this bus line will use hybrid gas vehicles, although electric buses will be added later.
