The Catalan design companies speak: the economic impact of the covid-19

In April, the Barcelona Design Center promoted a survey directed to the Catalan design services sector, in order to evaluate the economic impact of the pandemic and to propose measures for the administrations.

The full report of the collected data is now available, recording a negative trend in the impact of COVID-19 that seems to be expanding like an oil stain on our business fabric.

Of the 174 responses received on the immediate effects they have suffered, the freeze or loss of the projects stands out the most. 90% of respondents expect a 30% drop in their billing in the next quarter, and more than half of them demand an economic stimulus package in order to boost demand and tax bonuses as a solution to mitigate the negative effects of COVID-19.

On the other hand, the surveyed companies claim to have frozen 70% of their projects, while 51% of their initiatives have been canceled definitely. The sector of graphic communication and digital design has been the least affected.

Based on this data, the Barcelona Design Center is developing a set of proposals with the aim of boosting the demand for services among companies and entities. For now, the launch of the Inspired in Barcelona digital platform has been announced, which will act as a speaker for the local talent who have limited exposure due to the cancellation of creative fairs and festivals.
