Coming up at the Design Hub this 2020
2020 started and the Design Hub Barcelona faces a broad program of exhibitions, activities and festivals that positions the building in the map of emerging design and is in line with our aim to be the driving force of the economy of knowledge, creativity and innovation.
As always, the building will host the award ceremony for different awards organized by FAD and the different organizations that comprises, such as the acclaimed ADG Laus, the FAD Architecture and Interior Design Awards and the Delta Product Design Awards. The public will have the opportunity to discover the winning works from May 17 on, with the opening of the exhibition organized together with the Design Museum, "The best design of the year". The formats of the ADG Big Talk, the Design Market, ADI Making Of and Arquinset, among others, will still be part part of the programme.
In the Design Museum of Barcelona, the exhibition "Modernism, towards the culture of design" will take place in June, after the temporary exhibition "Victor Papanek: The politics of design", which now enters its final stretch and will be celebrating its closing ceremony on January 31. Curated by Mireia Freixa and Pilar Vélez, the exhibition presents for the first time a reinterpretation of Modernism as the beginning of the design culture, frames it in the European context and highlights the links and uniqueness of the Catalan case.
In addition to the permanent collections, the Museum's program will also include other temporary exhibitions throughout the year. This is the case of "Francesc Vidal. The bet to the art industries in Barcelona (1878-1914)” (December 2020), a retrospective exhibition focused on the furniture maker and his concept of interior decoration business and artistic industries. The Museum will also present, in collaboration with the Catalan Committee of Business, Crafts and Fashion, “Tiles and crafts. Contemporary artistic proposals”. The exhibition, kicking off in February at the Center Artesania Catalunya, aims to explain how the world of design and contemporary crafts have reviewed some techniques of the old trades.
This 2020, Design Hub Barcelona will be hosting some of the key events for every design professional, in a both national and global scale. The Blanc Festival will come back, and will take place in our building for the second consecutive year; OFFF, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary; and the Mobile Week Barcelona, promoted by the Barcelona City Council and the Catalan Government, will once again open a space for dialogue for citizens in order to highlight the effects of technology in our society.
In the agenda, there will also be space for contemporary jewelry, with the return of the Joya Fair Festival and Enjoia't; and the world of special effects and animation, hand in hand with the b’Ars festival.
The BCD Barcelona Design Center will keep working to exercise its role as a center that promotes and invigorates design in the business and institutional sphere. For this reason, we will once again host outstanding events in the professional design sector, such as the Service Design Days; and also relevant for emerging talent, as Big Dream Challenge. Foodture Barcelona will come back with a new edition, and so will do the Barcelona Design Week, the not-to-miss event about design, creativity and innovation in the city.
For its part, the El Clot-Josep Benet Library has articulated an annual program with the aim of bringing reading to all audiences and creating spaces for reflection through different book clubs, such as “Reading the Museum: the politics of design” and "Letter and music".
