The Design Museum and FAD meet in Madrid

Madrid will become the world design capital in February. The Madrid Design Festival 2021 will hold its fourth event with a programme that includes more than 200 activities among exhibitions, meetings, workshops and conferences that will revolve around design and its processes from multiple perspectives.

Two of these proposals have a Catalan touch. The first, the exhibition “Emergency! Designs against COVID-19”, produced by the Design Museum Barcelona and which could be seen in the Catalan capital during November, December and January. On this occasion, the exhibition, which presents a selection of 55 design initiatives which have provided a quick response to the healthcare crisis, will be free of charge and can be seen from 9 February to 14 March at the Fernán Gómez Theatre. Cultural Centre of the City of Madrid.

The second, the virtual round table “The futures from the futures. New Bauhaus Generation”, organised by the Fostering Arts and Design, FAD, and Cosentino. In fact, Cosentino is already a regular at this international event. It has accompanied the Madrid Design Festival since its creation four years ago, and in this year’s event it is present with about ten proposals including exhibitions, book presentations, competitions, interviews and debates. The round table “The future from the future. New Bauhaus Generation” will take place on 25 February at 7 p.m. and will bring together young professionals with a multi-disciplinary and transversal vision of design. One of the main themes that they will cover will be the challenges that the creation of the New Bauhaus will have to assume, proposed recently by the President of the European Commission, Ursula Von der Leyen, in the context of NextGenerationEU. This session is free of charge and requires prior enrolment to follow it live by sending an email to pmnavarro@cosentino.com.

And this thing is that design between Barcelona and Madrid is constantly in connection. In fact, in the framework of the 2020 event, the Madrid Design Festival and Barcelona Design Week established a collaboration to work jointly on the dissemination of the design and recognition of this discipline to deal with the challenges of society in the future. It was through the Madrid-Barcelona Bridge activity, organised by the Madrid Design Festival and Barcelona Design Centre, which was also held in Barcelona at the end of 2020.
