Inspired in Barcelona, the door to the talent of the world
Within the framework of Barcelona Design Week, Barcelona Design Center presents the Inspired in Barcelona platform, designed to bring us closer to the main prescribers and potential international buyers of Barcelona-inspired design, as well as media, entities, events, and general audiences who want to consume local creativity. Inspired in Barcelona is the new digital platform to promote Barcelona's creative talent around the world.
Through the platform, companies and professionals linked to the creative industries will be shown, as a speaker for the dissemination of local talent through projects or exhibitions, among others, and themes by sectors will be addressed (contract, food design, digital creativity, crafts, interior design , visual arts...).
The program that BDW used to present at international events this year has become an opportunity to digitize the international promotion of design and creativity in Barcelona. The new format, however, is not only intended to cover a specific need but to become a reference digital platform for Catalan creative industries around the world.
The director of the Barcelona Design Hub -who has promoted the project-, Mireia Escobar, values that this initiative is based on the intention of elaborating «a stable plan for the internationalization of the creative industries of the city, acquiring relevance in international fairs and markets in the design areas and other sectors of the creative industries, as well as stable agreements with local associations specializing in the management of international dynamics, especially with those that represent the interests of specific companies or have an objective international representation ”.
Through an agenda with actions promoted by Inspired in Barcelona and other relevant local events (Barcelona Design Week, Foodture Barcelona, Festival OFFF, Festival b'Ars, Festival Blanco, Semana de la Artesanía ...) visibility will be given to a reference city in creativity and design, through a large number of actions that must be made known internationally, as well as to the potential professional public visiting our city.
In a second phase, the project will include a marketing space in a brand hub format to facilitate the internationalization mainly of creators, small companies and the most emerging projects, building an international reputation and allowing them to open up to new audiences and markets.
The platform will be a pioneer in terms of digitizing the international promotion of the sector, with an ambitious and courageous project, essential today for the creative sector and in line with the objectives of digital transformation to improve productivity and competitiveness of companies. SMEs and entrepreneurs (Next Generation Europe). In fact, according to UNESCO, creative industries represented 2.6% of world GDP before COVID-19, and employed 30 million people; while in Europe the creativity sectors account for 4.2% of GDP according to the European Commission, with 12 million jobs, which represents 7.5% of the total.
For the Councilor for Tourism and Creative Industries, Xavier Marcé, «Barcelona has enormous potential to project itself as a benchmark city in creativity, and this platform must contribute to being a showcase, offering at the same time a window of opportunity and growth for local talent from the city". For her part, the general director of Barcelona Design Center, Isabel Roig, highlighted "the current situation and the opportunities that digitization offers us has led us to create this initiative that we are convinced will be strategic for the coming years."
