Open cycles of critical reading in Libraries

Libraries of Barcelona bring new thematic cycles this 2021. Periodic meetings on different topics with specialists of these, to make us read and reflect critically. Some of them in the El Clot-Josep Benet Library.

The first cycle, "Nature / culture: overcoming dualism", coordinated by Pol Capdevila and Francis García and with the collaboration of the Association for Philosophy Studies of the Autonomous University of Barcelona, recovers the debate on the alleged nature / dualism culture that has been historically present in philosophy. In the midst of a pandemic, there are many voices in the scientific and philosophical field that question this duality and propose to overcome it.

"Visions of science. Knowledge and coexistence in the face of the pandemic" scientifically and informatively addresses some of the main challenges associated with living with Covid-19: biodiversity, genetic diversity, evolution, adaptation, emerging diseases and misinformation. With the collaboration of Science to your world, important concepts related to disease, its origin and expansion will be explained, and evolutionary strategies for success in nature will be shown, and how this knowledge is useful in people's daily lives. favoring health and social cohesion.

The 1920s is remembered as a time of splendor, but was it as happy as it is remembered? "The Happy Twenties: Fun, Crises and Wars" approaches this decade and claims cultural, artistic and democratic creativity, which was marked by the rise of totalitarianism. Tot Història Cultural Association collaborates.

The fourth thematic cycle that we propose, coordinated by the journalist Sebastià Bennasar, is about Patricia Highsmith, one of the most relevant fiction authors of the 20th century. Outstanding as a writer of black genre, she has made anguish one of the main themes of her creation. The aim of this cycle is to pay tribute to a key author in contemporary fiction and analyze her influence on later literature.
