The Barcelona-based athlete Alicia Hernández beat two world records last year in the W-60 category in the triple jump speciality. The record-breaker, who is sixty years old, achieved these results in control trials organised by the Catalan Athletics Federation and at the Catalan Indoor Track Championships, both events competed over inside the Palau Sant Jordi in 2021.

When it comes to her professional career, the athlete has personal statistics that are hard to equal and that’s because every time she has taken part in international championships she has always ended up on the podium for her category.

An admirable career

She also achieved a worthy third place at the 2014 World Indoor Track Championships in Budapest in the W-50 category despite her lack of experience there. When she changed category, in 2016, already competing in the W-55 category, she was on the podium again at the European Indoor Track Triple Jump Championships held in Italy. The following year, in Denmark, she climbed up a step higher on the podium, to second place, at the European Outdoor Championships. She also won the silver medal at the 2018 World Outdoor Championships in Málaga. A year later and she carried off the bronze medal at the World Championships in Poland and a few months later, the silver medal at the European Championships in Venice.

She continued to take part in competitions, although practically no international ones were held in 2020 and 2021 because of the global pandemic. Even so, some control trials were held at the Palau Sant Jordi and, having changed category a few days before, the Barcelona-based athlete achieved a new world indoor track record for triple jump at 10.25 metres. During the weekend, and at the same venue for the Catalan Indoor Track Championships, she increased her world record by two centimetres, reaching 10.27 metres, which currently features in the EMA (European Masters Athletics) list of records.
