The 13th Women and Sport Prize kicked off on 10 March with the opening of the public competition for nominating candidates. Back another year, this award is aimed at highlighting the role of women in sport and publicising stories and reflections on their role here. At the same time, its organisers are also keen to contribute to an equal presence for women in all age groups and areas of physical and sports activities.
The award has four categories:
The first is the “Mireia Tapiador Prize for Sports Promotion”, which is aimed at women who have excelled in their work to disseminate and promote sport.
The second is the “Woman Athlete Prize”, which is given in recognition of social work for women’s sport, dedication and sports merits, which is open to women who have achieved a sports milestone or excelled in their sports career, social impact and contribution to the world of competitive sport.
The third is the “Media Prize”, which is given in recognition of individuals or media that have excelled in their work to promote or publicise events, activities and triumphs relating to women and sport. The award is open to outreach, informative or opinion-piece journalistic work, in the printed press, on the radio, on television (in analogue format) and/or digital/online format (radio, press, television, websites, journalist blogs, etc.,) produced, edited or published in Barcelona in 2017 and relating to women and sport.
The fourth is the “City Sports Club Prize”, given in recognition of the Barcelona sports club that has excelled in its work promoting women’s sport throughout its history or which has achieved a sports landmark in women’s sport or which promotes the participation and presence of women in all areas of action, thereby boosting the principle of equal opportunities.
