The subsidy call for cooperation and education for global justice will help fund 99 of the 200 projects put forward. The total funding this year is 7.76 million euros, an increase of 3.19% compared to last year.
In all, 52.38% of the projects presented will get funding. They are grouped into three programmes: international cooperation for global justice, which includes 35 projects; international cooperation for specific cities, with 14, and education for global justice, with 50 projects.
The number of projects put forward to promote gender justice on the programme for international cooperation stands out at 27, of which 10 will get funding. On the education programme the predominant area is for projects linked to self-learning services, where participants train by working with real needs to improve their environments. These represent 36% of the projects backed by this programme.
Projects to get funding in the cooperation for global justice category include: initiatives to strengthen women’s autonomy and leadership in the economic and political sphere in various cities, the protection of human rights defenders in Colombia, El Salvador and Mexico, support and health (more precisely mental health) for people in migration processes, the improvement of the right to the city, the strengthening of municipal capacities in Dakar, Tetuan and Palestine and the promotion of peace in Colombia.
As for education for global justice, funding will go to municipal initiatives to raise awareness on human rights, gender justice, cultural rights and food sovereignty. Regarding self-learning projects, there are a notable number geared towards working on a culture of peace, the migration crisis, gender justice and ethical and solidarity finance. Funding will also go to projects for public mobilisation and accountability in the area of ethical public procurement, the promotion of environmental justice in the context of the global climate emergency, projects linked to the violation of environmental rights, refuge, militarisation and food sovereignty.
