13/05/2024 - 17:21 h
From now until July, ten roads and pavements will get new paving, with urban furniture, handrails, decks and stairs in various locations in the districts of Ciutat Vella and Sant Martí also to be renewed. The work is part of the Comprehensive Maintenance Plan, within the context of the broader Pla Endreça, which should entail 3,000 works over the next four years.
The coastal neighbourhoods are getting cleaned up for the summer months, when the numbers of people swell and the city will be hosting the 37th America’s Cup.
The work to be carried out before July includes new paving and road surfaces in the following streets:
- Av. Marquès de l’Argentera, between Pla de Palau and Passeig de Picasso.
- Carrer dels Pescadors, in the section between the streets of Escuder and Drassana.
- Passeig de Colom, between Portal de la Pau and C/ Fusteries.
- Plaça de les Drassanes.
- Passeig de Josep Carner.
- Pla de Palau.
- Passeig Marítim de la Barceloneta,
- Plaça de Pau Vila.
- Av. Litoral.
- C/ Doctor Aiguader.
- C/ Marina, below Plaça dels Voluntaris.
- Repair of the seafront in the section touching the beach and the part along the road.
Maintenance work will also be carried out on pavements before July in Pg. Marítim, Pla de Palau, Pg. Colom and Pg. Joan de Borbó and other streets, while other measures include the renewal of furniture and various other structures such as handrails, balustrades, stairs, signage and other elements in public streets and spaces.
A renewed Rambla de Catalunya
The package of measures includes paving along the coast, in addition to the resurfacing work in Rambla de Catalunya, which is currently and progress and should be completed on 26 May.
The work includes the junctions between C/ Còrsega and Gran Via. In addition to new paving, signage on the ground will be renewed paying special attention to pedestrian crossings, bike lanes and areas around schools.
The goal of this work is for preventive planning, avoiding the deterioration of public space.
3,000 measures up to 2028
The Comprehensive Maintenance Plan is set to update 600,000 square metres of asphalt. Over the next four years, 12% of the city’s parks and gardens will be renewed, covering a total of 200 facilities such as children’s play areas, dog recreation areas and sports circuits, 35% of signage on the ground, 56% of lifts, 24% of escalators, 3,500 streetlights and 4,500 traffic lights.
435 million euros will be invested.
