Architecture Weeks 24: activity programme and dates

02/05/2024 - 13:39 h

This year’s Architecture Weeks are set to offer more than 180 activities for everybody from 14 May to 28 June. The programme has been designed for us to celebrate and experience architecture over a seven-week period, to learn and to enjoy our heritage. This year’s event sees 74 organisations and 12 universities joining in to offer exhibitions together, competitions, awards, talks, guided tours, celebrations and much more, in all the districts.

Participants will be able to experience and learn from architecture in a stimulating and interactive way, often in relation to other disciplines such as music and dance and accessing unique buildings. There’s also an architecture festival each weekend in one of the districts.

The Architecture Weeks will go beyond municipal boundaries too: 102 schools in the metropolitan area will be taking part in a programme taking architecture into classrooms. The programme includes activities for all, including the elderly, students, young people, families and children. You can find the full programme at barcelona.cat/setmanesarquitectura.

International party wall competition in the city

An international ideas competition is being launched for young architects on 30 May. The aim is to transform ten party walls, one in each city district. These walls were built to separate adjacent buildings, but sometimes they end up exposed. As they are not designed as outside walls, they may have shortcomings in terms of construction and insulation. The transformation of these ten walls should be ready in 2026 and become part of the legacy left in the city from when the city is the World Capital of Architecture 2026.
