Barcelona City Council believes that if health and safety measures are adopted as they have been in many municipalities and autonomous regions, farmers’ markets should not represent any more risks than other types of food supply. Because of this, a safety protocol has been developed which should be respected to guarantee the preventive measures on social distancing for places where there are build-ups of people. These measures include:

  • Delimiting the market and clearly identifying entrance and exit points.
  • Guaranteeing a maximum flow of people and respecting safety distances between them, in queues and between stalls.
  • Ensuring cleanliness and disinfection of stalls, materials and surfaces.
  • Encouraging behaviour to minimise risks: payment by credit card, limiting self-service, offering gloves and hand sanitiser and putting up information signs at stalls.
