Fundació Banc Sabadell- Hangar Arts Research Grant
Hangar and Fundació Banc Sabadell have announced their open call for grant applications from a researcher of Spanish nationality or who is resident in Spain and in the process of carrying out an arts research project. Projects can be submitted in the format of a doctoral thesis or developed outside the academic framework. The grant process will consider arts research projects at any stage that require the context and/or services of Hangar for their development and which, in addition, incorporate actions through which their processes and resultant contribution to knowledge can be accessed and shared. The selected project will be carried out during a Hangar residency of eight consecutive months between February and December 2020.

Target candidate

Researchers from any field (arts and non-arts), age or gender with Spanish nationality or resident in Spain who are in the development process of an arts research project.

The grant is open to arts research projects currently in any of its phases that require the context and/or services of Hangar for its development and which, in addition, incorporate actions through which their processes and resultant contribution to knowledge can be accessed and shared.
Residency length
Eight consecutive months between February and December 2020. Dates will be negotiated between Hangar and the selected project.

Conditions
- The application must be made by submitting one pdf file only to this email address: ludovica@hangar.org. See section 'Application submission' for the required information.
- Each candidate may submit one project only to the grant process.
- Candidates must have Spanish nationality or have residency in Spain.
- The organisers will make available to the successful grant holder:
– Fees: 9750 Euros (gross)
– A production scholarship of up to 4000 Euros (gross)
– A return ticket to and from Barcelona (up to 250 Euros)
– Accommodation and work spaces at Hangar
– Technical support for the development and production of the project.
Obligations of the selected project
- Carry out a presentation of the project during the Hangar residency period.
- Submit a final project report and an assessment of the residency within two months of its completion.
- Include the logos of Fundació Banc Sabadell and Hangar in all project communication material.
Selection
The selection committee will be made up of:
- A member of the Fundació Banc Sabadell
- A member of the Board of the Fundació AAVC
- The management of Hangar
- A member of Hangar’s Programming Committee
- Hangar’s research area coordination team
- Two members of CaiRE – Clúster d’Art i Recerca Experimental
Assessment criteria
The selection committee will assess projects according to:
- ‘Fit’ of the research with the avenues of enquiry of the Fundació Banc Sabadell and Hangar
- Viability and potential for developing the project at Hangar
- Benefit, relevance and interest of the project
- Arts trajectory and research experience.

– Nationality - Brief biography specifying the applicant’s main lines of enquiry and research (maximum 500 characters including spaces).

- Project description, including:
– Synopsis (maximum 2000 characters including spaces)

– Aims (maximum 1000 characters including spaces)
– Anticipated results (maximum 2000 characters including spaces)
– Methodology (maximum 2000 characters including spaces)
– How the project will be documented and shared (maximum 1000 characters including spaces)
– Timetable and work plan
– Technical requirements - Specify why the project must be carried out in the context of Hangar.
- For projects not part of the arts field, specify the involvement of methodologies pertaining to art in this piece of research.
- A letter of recommendation and assessment of the project.
- A maximum of 5 images for the project (optional).
IMPORTANT
- Applications not including the required information and/or that exceed the character limits specified will not be accepted.
- Application content may be submitted in Catalan or Spanish.
- The selection committee may contact shortlisted artists for an interview.
