Assessment Criteria

The call for applications is open to all cultural actors who as part of their practice usually work with artists, whether from an independent or institutional perspective (curators, researchers...)

There is no age limit.

Applicants do not have to currently be living in Catalonia.

Only one application is allowed per person. Only one person will be chosen to complete the residency.

The residency is focused towards those participants working to a high level of excellence, but who as yet do not have an established international career. One of the aims of the Curators' Network is to promote arts professionals currently not internationally recognized.

Applicants must be able to hold fluent discussions about art in English.

Projects submitted must include a project proposal with one or two partners: resident artists at Hangar and/or other cultural actors based in Catalonia and/or another part of the Spanish State.

Projects can be motivated by a line of research on which the candidate is currently working or can be specifically geared towards this residency.

The applicant will be asked to present results of the residency at the end of their tenure as part of Hangar’s Paratext programme. This final presentation should investigate new and original ways of showing research and work, preferably also in a digital/online format.

The individual candidate will also have to explain the residency process on the Curators’ Network’s Art Spy Blog and explore opportunities to share the experience with their local environment.

Residency applicants must commit to being available during the residency period: February and March, 2019.

Selection

The selection committee will be made up of the Curators' Network team and the Hangar programmes committee.

Calendar

Application Deadline: 14 October 2018 at midnight [Spain, CEST]
Decision notification: before 31 October, 2018
Residency period: February-March, 2019

Application Submission

In addition to the application form, applicants must attach some obligatory files. Incomplete or incorrect applications will not be considered. The maximum size for each necessary file is 5 MB.

Applicants must attach:

1. A Project Description

  • The candidate must submit a proposal for the project to be carried out during the residency. This proposal must involve other cultural actors: Hangar resident artists and/or other cultural actors resident in Catalonia and/or other parts of Spain. Similarly, the PDF must include a description of the project, its relationship with the envisaged cultural actors, together with images, videos and related texts if relevant.
  • One of the aims of the Curators' Network is to explain new forms of presentation of contemporary art, especially those that involve the creation of new digital contents. Consequently, applicants will have to anticipate, in the project description, the possibility of presenting their research in another format beyond an exhibition.

2. Applicant Project CV

  • CV
  • A maximum of 10 examples of recent projects with pictures, subtitles and a brief description if necessary. Links to websites related to the projects and videos documenting the projects can be included.
  • Any other relevant documentation (eg. Articles or other publications written about the candidate)

The application form must be completed in English. Additional documents can be presented in Spanish, though it is recommended that another version is sent in English as the different members of the deciding committee may not be sufficiently fluent in Spanish.
