'Transit in Study’ Residencies

1 May, 2018 - 10:00 to 17 June, 2018 - 23:59

La Central del Circ has announced its call for applications for the creation of a short performance piece.

This invitation is one of the residencies offered by La Central del Circ under different categories or creative transits. Each category is conceived as a creative stage that seeks to respond to the individual needs of each project according to its current state of development.

This particular residency format is aimed at companies and artists at the start of the creative process of an act or piece lasting a maximum of 20 minutes.

A maximum of 4 proposals will be chosen from among all the applications for this category and that of In Production (In Production).

Artistic Discipline

Circus

Target Candidate

Preference for these residencies will be given to Catalan and other Spanish companies, although applications from companies from other European countries will be considered.

In Study (En Estudi) is a residency conceived for artists, duos or new circus companies who have recently committed to creating a new project and who wish to dedicate to it a period of intense creation over the next few months. A fixed date for preview or premiere is not required.

The concept is to reach, by the end of the residency, a short form, an act or a sketch lasting around 20 minutes.

Duración de la residencia

The residencies will take place between July 2018 and July 2019 with an obligation to start in 2018. More specific dates will be agreed with the companies according to their future commitments and the availability of work spaces.

Due to the high occupation rates of rooms and with the aim of allowing companies maximum opportunity to have access to a space, changes of date will only be accepted once residency dates have been agreed between the company and La Central del Circ. Such changes will need to be requested at least one month in advance.

Venue

La Central del Circ
Moll de la Vela, 2
08930 Barcelona

Application Deadline

Applications can be submitted until 17 June 2018

Conditions

Each successful project will have:

  •  use of a creation room for 3 to 6 weeks (For this category and In Production (En Fabricació) there is a possibility that a maximum of 2 projects might enjoy a two-week residency in France with the programme Residències Creuades/Crossed Residencies.)
  • a bursary of 1 500 € for covering food and transport costs. The final amount of the bursary may be increased or decreased in line with the number of company members, the number of weeks the residency lasts and any other assistance the project may receive. In the case of artists whose tax residency status is outside Spain, this amount is inclusive of tax.
  • artistic monitoring and assessment in the field of production/recruitment from La Central del Circ.

An agreement will be drawn up between each chosen project and La Central del Circ.

At the end of the residency there are plans for a performance of the finished project within the framework of an open rehearsal.

Assessment Criteria

Particular attention will be given to the artistic quality of the proposals and the technical level of the circus discipline (s) put forward.

Selection

Project selection will be undertaken by a commission made up of the Project Manager, Art Director and the Artistic Council of La Central del Circ, a group of artists with broad experience in their field and knowledge of the circus community.

Where the commission sees it appropriate, some candidates may be offered the "Micro-residencies" format (short residencies without financial assistance).
