Internationalisation Grants Programme - La Escocesa 2019

La Escocesa is offering four grants for international residencies for artists in four European centres of arts creation to be carried out in 2019 and the first four months of 2020.

 

The centres are: Cité Internationale des Arts de París (citedesartsparis.net); GlogauAIR Berlín (glogauair.net); Casa Planas de Palma de Mallorca (centreculturalcasaplanas.org); and BelgradeAIR Belgrad (belgradeartistinresidence.wordpress.com).

Categories

La Escocesa will be awarding for different grants, one for each partnering centre. Categories are as follows:

 

Category A: Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris)

  • International residency from 3 February until 27 April 2020.
  • Accommodation and work study at the Centre Marais de la Cité Internationale des Arts.
  • Monthly endowment of 800€ (2400€ in total) for travel, living expenses, production and work transportation.
  • Backing for the creative process from the Cité Internationale des Arts with at least four meetings throughout the residency.
  • Possibility of forming part of the programme of events of the Cité Internationale des Arts, as well as of the Institut Cervantes de Paris.
  • Possibility of participation in the Open Studio Days of the Cité Internationale des Arts.
  • Possibility of receiving French classes at a reduced rate of 10€ per lesson.
  • Possibility of creating a network of contacts in the Monthly Lunches of the Cité Internationale des Arts.
  • Knowledge of French and/or English will be beneficial.
  • Documentation must be submitted in English.
  • The artist must provide a deposit of 400€ 30 days prior to the start of the residency. This deposit will be returned within 30 days of the end date of the residency after the state of the workshop and accommodation has been checked.

 

 

Category B: GlogauAIR Program (Berlín)

  • International residency from 1 October until 31 December 2019.
  • Accommodation and work study at the GlogauAIR creation centre.
  • A public performance of the proposed arts project under the rubric of Open Studios hosted by GlogauAIR at the end of December.
  • Inclusion of the grant-awarded project in the published catalogue for the GlogauAIR Open Studios in December.
  • The grant-awarded artist will have to lead a free event or activity (workshop, public presentation or performance, etc) for resident artists and the general public in partnership with the directorship of GlogauAIR. An activity proposal should be submitted as part of the current application.
  • Monthly endowment of 800€ (2400€ in total) for travel, living expenses, production and work transportation.
  • Documentation must be submitted in English.
  • The artist must provide a deposit of 600€ 30 days prior to the start of the residency. This deposit will be returned within 30 days of the end date of the residency after the state of the workshop and accommodation has been checked.

 

Category C: Casa Planas (Palma de Mallorca)

  • International residency from 1-30 November 2019.
  • Work study at Casa Planas.
  • One-off endowment of 1000€ for transport, living expenses, production and work transportation.
  • Particular value will be given to projects working on interculturalism, the theme of archives and/or local intervention projects.
  • Accommodation will be in the form of an exchange between the artist from La Escocesa and the artist from Casa Planas.
    • The artist will commit to offering accommodation in adequate conditions during the length of the residency.
    • The accommodation may be private or shared provided that a space for private rest and access to kitchen and bathroom services can be guaranteed.
    • La Escocesa and Casa Planas will commit to intervening to ensure that the two accommodation spaces in Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca share similar conditions.
  • The artist must provide a deposit of 200€ 30 days prior to the start of the residency. This deposit will be returned within 30 days of the end date of the residency after the state of the workshop and accommodation has been checked.
  • Backing of the creative process from Casa Planas.
  • Possibility of participation in the cultural activities of Casa Planas.
  • Documentation must include photographs and description of the exchange accommodation space the artist is making available for the residency.
  • This grant has been agreed between the Goethe-Institut and Casa Planas.

 

Category D: BelgradeAIR (Belgrade)

  • International residency from 1 September until 31 October 2019.
  • Accommodation and work study in Belgrade, in the premises of BelgradeAIR.
  • Monthly endowment of 800€ (1600€ in total) for travel, living expenses, production and work transportation.
  • Backing for the creative process by BelgradeAIR throughout the residency.
  • Possibility of forming part of the September 2019 Belgrade AIR’s Open Studios event, using the study as an exhibition space.
  • Possibility of publishing an online catalogue for the Open Studios Event (mentioning the artist).
  • Belgrade AIR will give its support to the organisation of one activity (workshop, presentació pública, etcètera), including promotion from its social channels.
  • Knowledge of English will be considered beneficial.
  • Documentation must be submitted in English.
  • The artist must provide a deposit of 400€ 30 days prior to the start of the residency. This deposit will be returned within 30 days of the end date of the residency after the state of the workshop and accommodation has been checked.

Selection

The awarding of grants will be conducted through an open and competitive process, in line with principles of objectivity, equality, non-discrimination and publicity.

 

The management of La Escocesa will draw up an initial shortlist of candidates. The final selection of all submitted applications will be made by the arts committee of each centre.

 

Applications will be assessed according to the dossier and cv submitted as well as in relation to their fit with the specific requirements of the chosen category.

 

The grant endowment is subject to a 3% withholding of IRPF (Income Tax). Payment of the amount awarded will be made 5 working days after the formal acceptance of the grant by the candidate.

 

The residency application decision will be made public on the La Escocesa website and communicated by email to each participant.

 

One of the four grants in this open call will be reserved for resident artists at La Escocesa.

Conditions for Applicants

To opt for one of these grants, applicants must satisfy both of the following requirements:

  1. Be an artist developing their artistic career in Spain.
  2. Submit a work project that can be completed during the period covered by the grant.

 

Obligations

  1. Artists who become recipients of these grants cannot have been awarded previously the same grant from La Escocesa.
  2. Selected artists will have to submit a final report on the development of their project (minimum 4 pages), with high-quality images, during a period of up to one month after the end of their residency grant.
  3. Selected artists must engage in a public presentation at La Escocesa of the work developed, on a date to be agreed with the centre management.
  4. Public or written interventions linked to the project, whether joint or individual, as well as all publications produced during the period of the grant, must acknowledge the status of holder of a grant from La Escocesa.

    • Category B: GlogauAIR Progam (Berlin): 01/10 to 31/12/2019
    • Category C: Casa Planas (Palma de Mallorca): 01/11 to 30/11/2019
    • Category D: BelgradeAIR (Belgrade): 01/09 to 31/10/2019

 

  • Arts Dossier: Including artist’s statement (one page maximum) and project to be developed during the residency (maximum 4 pages). Regarding Category B, a proposal of an event or activity to be carried out during the residency must be included (1 extra page). For Category C, information (photographs and description) of the exchange accommodation must be included (up to three extra pages).

 

  • CV (important to include ability in languages, up to 5 pages)

 

  • Portfolio of recent projects (up to 5 pages)

 

Documentation must be submitted in English, with the exception of Category C, which may be submitted in Spanish or Catalan (as specified in different categories).

 

Applications, together with requested documentation, must be submitted by email and addressed to convocatories@laescocesa.org. The deadline for application submission will 5 July 2019, 1pm. Applications received after this specified deadline will not be accepted.

 

La Escocesa will communicate the result to selected candidate for the grant at some point in July 2019.
