The garden of the Fundació Julio Muñoz Ramonet opens to the public

The garden of the Fundació Julio Muñoz Ramonet was opened on Sunday 5th June to the general public, as a new green space in the city. The opening ceremony took place in the morning with activities for all the family including music, painting and storytelling.

From now on, the garden will be open to the general public from 10 a.m. until sunset.

The garden of the Fundació Julio Muñoz Ramonet is the typical historical garden of the Catalan bourgeoisie of the beginning of the twentieth century. It was designed by Jean-Claude-Nicolas Forestier (1861-1930) and later renovated by Joan Mirambell i Ferran (1895-1983). This historic garden, typical of the Catalan bourgeoisie of the beginning of the twentieth century, has been preserved to this day.

When the Fundació Julio Muñoz Ramonet renovated the garden, it sought to maintain the essence of Forestier’s project and respect the changes made by Mirambell. The vegetation that was in poor condition was replaced, and high value specimen such as the Lime Tree, the Black Maple, the European Nettle Tree, the Chinese Fan Palm and some of the most characteristic plants of that era were preserved. The paths were rendered more accessible and the irrigation and lighting systems were renewed. The pool was replaced by a pond in the garden on calle de l'Avenir.

Visiting this garden will be a unique experience in the city however due to its historical features, the fragility of the garden must be taken into account by ensuring that its heritage value is preserved.
