City Police campaign against speeding

27/03/2023 - 10:59 h

A week-long campaign to combat speeding, one of the main causes of accidents.

Detecting speeding offences where vehicles break general limits and specific limits for certain road sections is an important factor in reducing the number of accidents in urban streets.

The campaign launched by the City Police on 27 March is aimed at reducing traffic accidents and the injuries people sustain as a result of them. To achieve this, the police will be monitoring and reporting all cases of excessive or inappropriate speeds which may pose a potential or specific risk to the safety of anybody using public streets.

Speed checks will prioritise city streets where speed-related accidents have occurred and areas where specific problems have been identified relating to speeding.

Special attention will also be given to speeds that can affect the safety of pedestrians, with mobile units operating in areas with 30 km/h limits, areas where pedestrians have priority and areas with curbless paving.

Different radar equipment will be used and the operation will be complemented with awareness messages on road information panels.

The campaign will run from today to until Sunday, 2 April.
