Safety and prevention. The citywide operation will be in place from now until Sunday, 2 May.

The last campaign to prevent distractions when driving or at traffic lights was conducted from 19 to 25 October last year, resulting in 1,025 formal denouncements.

The main goal of the Local Road Safety Plan 2019-2022 is to cut the number of accident rates, mortalities and serious injuries through specific measures.

In this respect, a high percentage of deaths and serious injuries from road accidents are due to people getting run over. One of the main reasons for this type of accident is a lack of attention at the wheel, in many cases caused by drivers using mobile phones and getting distracted.

Because of this, the City Police are running a prevention campaign to make people aware of the risks of the inappropriate use of mobile phones, headphones, GPS devices, other devices with internet access or any other communication system when driving, thus helping to cut the number of accidents, the number of victims and the severity of injuries caused.

The campaign also consists of control measures and denouncements for infringements by drivers not obeying traffic lights.

The campaign will thus correct all infringements which generate risks, in particular relating to a lack of concentration when driving, disobeying traffic lights or not respecting pedestrian priority.

The citywide operation will be in place 24 hours a day from now until Sunday, 2 May.
