Barcelona welcomes the 98th intake of the City Police, adding 125 new officers to the police corps with the commitment of working for security and coexistence in the city.
Of the 125 new officers, 76 are men and 49 are women, aged between 29 and 35. In terms of educational qualifications, 59% of the new officers have studied in higher education.
The new officers will be posted around the city’s ten districts and carry out tasks relating to public security, road safety and local policing to strengthen contact with the public etc.
19% women in the corps
The City Police currently has 3,500 officers, the highest number ever. Women account for 19% of the corps, also the highest percentage to date.
The increase in women’s presence in the City Police has been a priority for the City Council in recent years, safeguarding the principles of equality, merit and ability in access to public sector jobs as the most efficient way of balancing out the presence of men and women in the ranks.

The ceremony brought together over 600 people and was held at the Umbracle in the new Parc de les Glòries on Wednesday, 25 June. It included a display by various City Police units, with activities for all audiences.
