COVID-19. The office oversaw the installation of field hospitals and tasks carried out at elderly people’s homes.

As the crisis scales down and the number of Covid-19 hospital admissions drops, the office set up to coordinate the response to the health emergency has now closed down. The technical office was a combined effort between the Barcelona Fire Service, the City Police, other municipal services and the various Ministries of the Government of Catalonia.

From the start of the Covid-19 pandemic and over the weeks that followed, the technical office set up by Barcelona City Council to tackle the emergency oversaw procedures and protocols in coordination with all the city’s municipal services and the Government of Catalonia.

The office handled the installation of the four field hospitals and hotels used as medical facilities to provide back-up for Barcelona’s main hospitals, as well as action taken in elderly people’s homes and other tasks.

The Barcelona Fire Service conducted 179 disinfection tasks at elderly people’s homes, as well as carrying out 4,728 quick tests on senior citizens and staff and advising on 241 contingency plans for prevention and action to combat Covid-19.

During the different stages of lockdown, the City Police and the Barcelona Fire Service have kept working to protect people and respond to any type of emergency.
