France. Folk. Barcelona premiere
This is the première in Catalonia of a band from the French region of Occitania whose music is based on vocal polyphonies from the region, which yield “magnetic and wild” songs. The group has seven singers and a percussionist who – you are forewarned – bring the audience to collective ecstasy, a state they define as like “a wire over the abyss”, in which the harmonies of these voices weave together and separate.
Melodically irresistible, the sound essences of each song’s powerful rhythms come from the Mediterranean. The music they make, bound together with poetry, promises an unforgettable sound journey.
Barrut was founded in 2013 in Montpelier, Occitania, joining parallel musical universes in a group that revolves around voice, poetry, rhythms and songs. Barrut’s repertoire includes both classical Occitan poetry set to music and their own original compositions. Together, they create unique polyphonic music which is both modern yet timeless.
