The history of La Fàbrica del Sol is linked to energy. It occupies the old gasworks administrative building that once belonged to the Catalana de Gas company. The building was designed by the architect Josep Domènech i Estapà, and is listed in the city’s Register of Historical and Artistic Architectural Heritage.
The facility expands the resources offered up till 2009 by the Sustainable Barcelona Resource Centre (Centre de Recursos Barcelona Sostenible - CRBS), situated in the Gràcia district, in Carrer Nil Fabra, and opened in 1999. This latter facility now accommodates the secretariat of Barcelona’s Local Agenda 21, the Schools’ Agenda 21, and the Environmental Education Documentation Service.
