The centre offers various services, such as information and facilitation, a cultural programme and documentation. It also provides specific support and psychological, legal and psychological advice for trans people.

Since it opened on 19 January 2019, the Barcelona LGBTI Centre has joined forces to become a leading space for reflection and visibility on sexual and gender diversity, open to everybody.

Since it opened on 19 January 2019, the Barcelona LGBTI Centre has joined forces to become a leading space for reflection and visibility on sexual and gender diversity, open to everybody.

A place for meeting, support and guidance, in coordination with organisations and administrations.

Information and facilitation service

The Information and Facilitation team at the centre handles enquiries and information requests on diverse matters relating to sexual, affective and gender diversity. Enquiries arrive by phone, email, social media and in person at the reception desk in the centre.

The facility also offers its own cultural and awareness programme, its goal being to promote LGBTI rights through artistic and cultural activities such as workshops, exhibitions, film screenings, round tables, debates, book presentations and more.

Every year the centre holds a party, organising a day of multiple activities to present the facility as an open and inclusive space, connected with the neighbourhood of Sant Antoni. The celebration includes activities which generate ties with people, local facilities and organisations.

We also seek to be a point of reference for the main LGBTI organisations in the city, some of which are based at the centre. Others organise occasional activities there or make occasional use of the premises to offer some of their services.

Direct support services for LGBTI people

The Barcelona LGBTI Centre offers various support services for LGBTI people, whether on an individual, group or family basis.

Specialised services offered are:

  • Reception: the centre offers primary support to gauge people’s specific needs, offer advice and refer them to other services if necessary.
  • Psychological advice: the centre offers occasional psychological support and guidance
  • Trans advice: psychological advice to address the specific needs of trans people
  • Legal advice: support and guidance for legal procedures

Procedures relating to foreigner status and asylum, demand for covering basic needs and benefits, queries about gender transition, labour advice, support in cases of intragender violence, administrative procedures, cases of LGBTI-phobia or discrimination, conflicts within nuclear families, circumstances relating to non-normative gender expression and health matters are just some of the main matters handled by these services.

Documentation Centre

The LGBTI Centre also houses the Armand de Fluvià Documents Centre (CDAF), one of the most extensive collections of documents about sexual, affective and gender diversity in the Spanish state.

The CDAF contains different types of documents, such as historical posters, magazines, works of fiction, press cuttings, books with essays or general information about various topics such as gender studies, sexuality, social and cultural studies, education, social work, history, politics, legislation, narrative, comics and more.

Documents held at the CDAF can be consulted from Monday to Friday, between 4 pm and 8 pm, on the first floor. Many of the documents are also available on loan.

Communication

The LGBTI Centre regards communication as a tool for presenting the services offered, guaranteeing transparency and establishing close interaction with users.

We want messages to reach people in a clear and inclusive way, accessible to all and contributing towards awareness tasks carried out by other areas at the centre.

These have helped us illustrate the universe of the centre, Brou Gràfic, with the memory of activities for 2021 available on paper at the LGBTI Centre at Carrer Comte Borrell, 22, and downloadable in digital format here.
