The Barcelona LGBTI Centre is presenting a schedule of activities for June, July and August, aiming to open the Centre up to new ideas while also showcasing existing LGBTIQA+-focused projects from the city’s community network.
With the arrival of summer come months of a slower pace, of sharing time outdoors, reconnecting with like-minded people, and expanding our networks. That is why, during June, July and August, we are offering a range of activities in collaboration with civic centres, self-managed cultural projects, museums, associations and activists working across different neighbourhoods and districts.
Established initiatives such as Vermut Trans, the FIRE!! LGBTI Film Festival by Casal Lambda, and Orgull de la Trini all have a place in this series, as part of our open-air programme.
We will also be hosting the exhibition Agenda Kuir, which brings together 12 years of queer artistic projects from different parts of the world, offering transgressive perspectives on sexual dissidence through research and artistic experimentation.
We are also collaborating with MACBA to offer a guided tour with commentary on its exhibition ‘Carlos Motta. Prayers for Resistance’, which spans over 25 years of the artist Carlos Motta’s practice and is consistently shaped by the body and sexual dissidence as a space for artistic experimentation and political resistance.
And as the warmer weather encourages us to offer more outdoor activities, we are also organising ‘The Route of Desire’, a walking tour led by activist Margarita Carreras through some of the most emblematic spots in the Raval, in an effort to ensure that the history of this seafaring, outward-looking neighbourhood is not lost.
Summer is also a time to make space for that subject we have always put off, to put into practice everything we have learned over the year, and to immerse ourselves in more hands-on activities. That is why we are offering a range of fun, participatory workshops, including a Catalan conversation group, a hood-making session, and a feminist and LGTBIQA+ bingo.
As with every series, we are also hosting a number of round tables for collective reflection, this time on artistic experimentation practices and the shared vulnerabilities present in non-monogamous relationships shaped by sapphic desire.
In this summer series, the LGBTI Centre is expanding its programme across the city, and we hope to see you there!
