Street names. The changes in the street name index also seek to regain popular names used by local people in the city’s neighbourhoods.

The measure represents further progress in naming streets, gardens and squares in the city after women, who represent just 8% of the total. In all, 21 new names have been approved while other popular names used by local people in the city’s neighbourhoods have also been regained.

The nine women’s names form part of the 21 new names approved by the Street Naming Commission, the body of the City Council tasked with this process. The names correspond to three streets, three changes of names for gardens and five new squares.
