The inaugural party at the provisional structure is on Saturday 21 July, with activities for all sectors of the public.
Stallholders from the Mercat de l’Abaceria moved to the provisional market in Passeig de San Joan first thing this morning. The temporary market is located between C/ Indústria and C/ Sant Antoni Maria Claret. The market in the Gràcia neighbourhood will be offering its usual services inside a temporary structure while work is carried out to revamp the original building in Travessera de Gràcia.
An inaugural party will be held at the temporary structure throughout the morning of Saturday 21 July, with various activities and all sorts of workshops being laid on. Everyone attending will be able to enjoy a drumming and percussion parade from the original building to the temporary market, human towers workshops by the Castellers de Gràcia, a swing dance session, live rumba and more. During the morning there will also be a separate marquee, where various children’s workshops will be held.
The provisional market will have 43 food establishments inside and 13 non-food stalls outside, on the Llobregat side of the market. These individual outer stalls are on the same side of the marquee façade and have a protective awning. The interior aisles are 3 metres wide and the stalls are 2 metres deep.
The provisional opening times will be from 8 am to 2.30 pm and from 5 pm to 8.30 pm from Monday to Thursday, from 8 am to 8.30 pm on Saturdays and public holidays, and from 8 am to 3 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm on Saturdays. The market will be closed on Saturdays in July and August.
Over the summer months, the administrative steps will be taken for the demolition, tendering and execution of work at the market in Travessera de Gràcia, with a view to demolition work getting under way at the start of the autumn.
