Ceramic tiles in relief

Ceramic panels or posters were another very popular means of advertising. Valencia was a major centre of production, especially between 1910 and 1940. Whitepaste tiles measuring 15 x 15 cm were decorated using the tubat technique, i.e. with a clay cord separating the painted glazes that  provided a certain amount of relief for the image shown. As this material was more resistant, it could be used outside, especially on shop façades,  where the shine of the glazes and enamels helped to achieve their main aim: to get the attention of passers-by. Food, alcoholic drinks and bottled  water were the most advertised products. Most of the panels came from the Francisco Lahuerta factory in Manises, which manufactured them from 1925 to 1939.
