By Oriol Rossinyol, former Chief of Collections of Museu de la Música de Barcelona.

While walking in the middle of musical instruments, we will see how this magnificent and ancient collection has been transformed. In his previous exhibition, in a noble building of the Eixample of Barcelona, perhaps the modernist architecture shadowed the exposed objects. When moving to an innovative and attractive museum environment, the instrument becomes the exclusive center of our gaze.

Should the collection grow? Should the instruments be restored? The silence of the past years and centuries had to be broken by recovering the voice of the objects created to make music? It was necessary to renew, a new museum discourse was necessary and in 2007 the new Museum opened its doors. With the perspective of the past years, we can respond to the questions and secrets that hide these historical pieces.
