The Museu de la Música hosts two concerts of the Bachcelona Festival which, under the common title ‘Beyond the Suite’, will feature the participation of acclaimed cellists Clara Pouvreau and Markku Luolajan-Mikkola. While Pouvreau will test her virtuosity with the interpretation of Sonata n. 1 in G minor BWV 1001, transcribed from the violin, Luolajan-Mikkola will embark on a similar, equally complex adventure with Suite no. 2 in D minor BWV 1008 and Partita n. 2 in G minor BWV 1004.

Markku Luolajan-Mikkola has achieved two hallmarks in the field of Bach: on the one hand, he has performed and registered arrangements for the violin sonatas and partitas with his cello – something quite unprecedented due to the difficulty it implies. On the other hand, there is the great impact of his Peregrinatio project, which led this Finnish cellist to perform Bach during three years across all of Finland’s historical churches.
