Ethnomusicologist Ilaria Sartori speaks with Smail Ouazza and Simone Kherbouch, musicians from Gnawa Vibrations, and with Walaâ Hechach, producer and member of the Gnawa community in Barcelona, in an open meeting prior to the Gnawa Lila scheduled as part of Trànsits.
This presentation addresses topics such as the ritual, spiritual, and community dimensions of Gnawa in their original contexts, as well as their contemporary experience and practice in an urban European setting, such as the city of Barcelona.
Since 2019, Gnawa has been recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
