The project originated with the participatory budgets and work gets under way on 16 January. A complete revamp will be carried out to the two play areas on the side nearest the mountains in Pl. Doctor Letamendi, at the junction between the streets of Enric Granados and Aragó, in the Esquerra de l’Eixample neighbourhood.
The project will renew and improve the children’s areas here to make them more conducive to play. The central space will also be reorganised to avoid excessive circulation by bicycles and scooters, as this generates insecurity for pedestrians and children who play here. To this end, furniture will be added at the entrances to the square, along with signs indicating that bicycles and scooters should use the side lane in the square instead of passing through the middle of it.
Extra signage will be introduced too, indicating the obligation to keep dogs on leads, with more trees also to be added once the drought restrictions are lifted.
The project was one of the winning initiatives in the Participatory Budgets, presented to green up Pl. Doctor Letamendi and make it more conducive to play. The work will cost 300,000 euros and should conclude in March.
