The public demonstration this Saturday, 26 August, with the slogan “I am not afraid”, will finish with an act in Plaça de Catalunya at 6.45 pm. An act with contemporary Barcelona society as the main character, where words and music will combine with the strength and unity ordinary citizens have shown in the face of adversity.

This act will have two parts:

In the first the actress Rosa Maria Sardà and the spokesperson for the Ibn Battuta Foundation, Míriam Hatibi, will offer some readings specially chosen for the occasion. The actress, who starred in “La Rambla de les Floristes”, by Josep Maria de Sagarra, and one of the people who has spoken out most strongly in favour of community harmony in recent days will be the voice of the city. Two women, both born in Barcelona and who love the city.

In the second part, Peter Thiemann, a cellist with the Liceu Symphonic Orchestra, and Guillem Gràcia, a cello student, will perform ‘El Cant dels Ocells’ (The Song of the Birds), which Pau Casals turned into a symbol of peace and freedom. Two cellists, one established who has made Barcelona his home, and another who is the innocence that represents the future, will perform this ode to freedom to a backdrop of images of how ordinary people have lived through the days following the attack: a Barcelona that is united, diverse, committed and not afraid. A Barcelona that looks to the future.

The stage will be adorned with floral decorations made by the Florists Association of Catalonia. The backdrop to the stage will be a sketch by the artist Frediric Amat with the demonstration slogan “No tinc por” in different languages.

During the demonstration, various volunteers will hand out 100,000 flowers in the city’s colours: red, yellow and white.
