To promote a culture of home fire prevention, the Barcelona Fire Service has signed collaboration agreements with various professional bodies and organisations with the aim of maximising safety.

Property managers across the city will thus pass on the Fire Service’s safety advice through their correspondence with residents, such as letters convening community meetings.

The initiative will start by providing tips on how to prevent fires caused by problems when charging the batteries of scooters and other devices.

The Fire Service highlighted the following recommendations:

Don’t charge batteries in sockets located along your home’s escape routes, as a fire in this area could make it difficult to evacuate. Install smoke detectors near the battery charging points you use most frequently. If a device or battery has been subjected to an impact, don’t attempt to handle it yourself — have it checked by qualified technicians instead.
