Improvement Works Begin at Estació del Nord as Part of the Barcelona Destination Sustainable Tourism Plan
This upgrade has a budget of €10 million, of which €4.8 million comes from the European Next Generation funds as part of the Barcelona Destination Sustainable Tourism Plan (PSTDB).
The Barcelona City Council has greenlit the renovation and enhancement project for the station's spaces and services, aimed at ensuring the best experience for travellers and transport companies.
Barcelona de Servicios Municipales (BSM) will be responsible for carrying out the improvement, renovation, and adaptation of the Barcelona Nord bus station. This upgrade has a budget of €10 million, of which €4.8 million comes from the European Next Generation funds as part of the Barcelona Destination Sustainable Tourism Plan (PSTDB).
As noted by the First Deputy Mayor and BSM President, Laia Bonet, the station “handles over 2.6 million travellers and nearly 150,000 departures a year, making it the primary hub for bus arrivals and departures in the city for both domestic and international destinations.”
The works will last for one year, with completion anticipated in 2026. Throughout the construction period, the station will maintain all its activities.
All Services on the Ground Floor and a Single Access Point
The two main changes in the station’s transformation are the consolidation of all services on the ground floor and the creation of a single entrance for travellers located in Carrer de Nàpols. This will optimise passenger flow and improve accessibility and connectivity with the metro and Arc de Triomf Suburban Rail station.
New waiting and dining areas with a diverse gastronomic offering will also be created. The station will feature a photovoltaic installation on its roof to provide part of its energy consumption, contributing to a more sustainable city and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
