El daguerreotip. L'inici de la fotografia

13 November 2014 - 28 February 2015

The Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona showed 'El daguerreotip. L’inici de la fotografia' [The Daguerreotype. The Birth of Photography] exhibition in celebration of the 175th anniversary of the city's introduction to the first photographic technique and presenting the municipal collection of daguerreotypes. The exhibition is an opportunity to display the tools and equipment used in daguerreotype production, featuring the first camera ever seen in Barcelona and including artefacts from the Blanxart family daguerreotype laboratory in Sant Joan de les Abadesses, preserved in the Arxiu Fotogràfic de Barcelona. To complete the celebration of the procedure invented by Daguerre, a new daguerreotype photograph of the Pla de Palau square has been created, a contemporary reproduction of the first-ever photograph of the city and, indeed, in Spain, taken on 10 November 1839.
