We’re celebrating Sant Jordi at Open Streets too!

16/04/2024 - 09:00 h

The Sants-Montjuïc and Gràcia districts are joining in the Sant Jordi celebrations with various activities that will be filling the streets of Sants, Creu Coberta and Gran de Gràcia with books and roses over the next few days.

An initiative that aims to open the streets to pedestrians so that everyone can take a safe, peaceful stroll, and enjoy public space simply had to be included in the Sant Jordi celebrations. Both C/ Gràcia and Sants – Creu Coberta streets will be decorated in honour of the big annual rose-and-book festival. When will we be able to enjoy Open Streets for Sant Jordi?

C/ Sants – Creu Coberta

The Open Streets celebration on C/ Sants – Creu Coberta will be happening a few days before Sant Jordi, on the weekend of 20-21 April. On C/ Creu Coberta, between 10 am and 8 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, everyone will be able to wander through the Fira de Sant Jordi, which will be taking place roughly between Plaça Espanya and C/ Joanot Martorell. On C/ Sants, the celebrations will be held on Saturday morning from 11 am to 2 pm, on the stretch between C/ Olzinelles and C/ Guadiana, where you’ll be able to enjoy a selection of poetry readings on a new “Passeig per la lectura”.

Residents of C/ Sants – Creu Coberta and the surrounding area need to bear in mind that there will be traffic closures, and that work on setting up and dismantling the Fira de Sant Jordi, the “Passeig per la lectura” and Open Streets will affect the traffic circulation in the area for most of the week. The Fira de Sant Jordi area on C/ Creu Coberta will effectively be closed to traffic for most of the week, from 7 am on Saturday until 10 pm on Sunday.

Sant Jordi’s Day special in Gran de Gràcia

Meanwhile C/ Gran de Gràcia, will be celebrating a special edition of Open Streets on Tuesday 23 April, the big day itself. This space will once again be packed with stalls selling books and roses, a grand celebration to be enjoyed on this very special day, complementing the other activities that will be filling the streets of the Gràcia district. This special edition of Open Streets on Gran de Gràcia will be taking place uninterrupted over a period of twelve hours between 9 am and 9 pm, extending normal opening times by an hour.

However, residents should be aware that the street will be closed to traffic from 6 am until around midnight, to allow for the setting up and dismantling of the stalls.
