Manifesta 15 European biennial to be held from 8 September to 24 November
The fifteenth edition of the European Nomadic Festival, Manifesta 15, is being held in Barcelona and eleven municipalities in the metropolitan area from 8 September to 24 November. The international event aims to foster a balanced social and ecological transition and get people involved.
Over a period of nearly three months, the nomadic European biennial Manifesta 15 is set to attract leading voices, urban stakeholders and members of the public to discuss urgent issues relating to our environment through culture, art, ecology, sustainability, urban planning and architecture.
This edition seeks various focal points through the diversification of spaces and decentralisation with twelve municipalities in the metropolitan area: Badalona, Barcelona, Cornellà de Llobregat, El Prat de Llobregat, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Granollers, Mataró, Sabadell, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Sant Cugat del Vallès, Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Terrassa.
First details of the biennial programme
In the preliminary research to open up debates and lines of research, the importance of local archives, oral traditions and private and public genealogies stand out in terms of establishing the relationship between local history, colonialism and climate injustice. Besides exhibitions, open throughout the biennial, every week the focus of the programme will move to one of the twelve towns and cities, with a programme developed by an artistic representative.
Three themed clusters have also been established, all located in the metropolitan area, where the event will address the major challenges linked to urban transformations: the Besòs, the Llobregat Delta and the Collserola mountain range, and the Vallès area.
One notable project in the programme is “Fora per fer escola”, an education and mediation initiative to study the progressive educational movements in Catalonia before and after the Franco dictatorship, as well as good practice in the education ecosystem.
Tickets to take part in the activities will cost 15 euros and go on sale from the middle of May.
The Manifesta 15 team
The artistic team for the biennial is made up of the director and founder of the Manifesta International Foundation and Manifesta 15 Barcelona, Hedwig Fijen, the creative mediator Filipa Oliveira and the artistic representatives designated by the participating municipalities.
