Belgium. Circus. Barcelona premiere

With the title Hugs & Handshakes , this outdoor show features five acrobats who interact with the audience. Each duo and each group choreography takes handshakes, hands on the back or hugs as its point of departure, drawing from the title. They begin here and end up doing the most spectacular acrobatics.

What does hugging or shaking an artist’s hand mean? Are these duets spontaneous or were they planned beforehand? Is that person an audience member or an artist? You’ll see how this show needs additional hands to work properly. Will you lend yours?

THERE THERE Company is a contemporary circus company directed by Toon Van Gramberen and Hanna Mampuys. They have been working together as acrobats and circus creators since 2010. Their work is an active quest for meaning in the world around us. Their physical language is heavily influenced by their circus practice, especially the paired acrobatics in which connected bodies are at the core of the process. The performers are the stars in their shows, with all their vulnerability and flaws.
